Subject: Fw: Recall of meat products implicated in a food borne illness outbreak

FROM VANCOUVER COASTAL HEALTH

There is a national outbreak of listeriosis occurring and a number of meat products produced by a Maple Leaf plant in Toronto have been implicated as the source of this outbreak.  This food borne illness is of particular concern to the elderly, immune compromised, children and pregnant women.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is coordinating a recall of all food products produced by this plant and local health authorities have been asked to assist in passing along the information.  A complete list of recalled products is available on the CFIA website at http://www.inspection.gc.ca/english/corpaffr/recarapp/recaltoce.shtml but products can also be identified by the establishment number on the packaging.  This number is beside the best before date or packaged on date and will look like this: EST 97B.

Any meat products from this plant (EST 97B) should be discarded.
