Student Behaviour Expectations - POLICY
1. Respect: Students will respect all other students, staff, school property, and themselves. THERE WILL BE ZERO TOLERANCE FOR BULLYING or PHYSICAL OR VERBAL ABUSE. This type of behavior may result in suspension or expulsion from school.
2. Language: Students will be careful not to offend anyone with their language. Students will not swear, use obscenities, vulgar expressions, lie, threaten, insult, or engage in verbal abuse of any kind.
3. Personal Appearance: Students will wear only the regulation uniform and adhere to the dress code. Students will keep their uniform in good, clean condition. Students may be sent home if not wearing proper uniform.
4. Absent: If a student is absent, the parent or guardian will phone the school prior to 8 am. Students will bring a note of explanation upon return.
5. Cell Phones, Pagers, and Walkmans: Students will understand that these items are not allowed in class. If a student uses them in class, they may be taken away.
6. Attendance: 7 or more absences will result in a letter sent to parents expressing concern for the missing instructional time. It is the student’s responsibility to see a teacher to find out what was missed during the absence.
7. Truancy: Students are expected to attend school at all times.
8. Lates: Students are expected to arrive on time for both morning and afternoon sessions. Excused lates will be issued only if the student has a medical appointment.
9. Lockers/Cupboards: The locker is the property of the Mediated Learning Academy and may be inspected and opened at any time.
10. Damage to School Property: Students will show respect towards all school property. If damage occurs to school property, Students will be responsible to clean up, repair, or cover any costs to repair.
11. Alcohol and Drugs: The use of, possession of, or being under the influence of illegal drugs or non-prescription drugs or alcohol in school, on school property, or at school sponsored functions is a violation of school policy. THERE WILL BE ZERO TOLERANCE FOR THE USE OF ALCOHOL AND ILLEGAL DRUGS.
12. Smoking and/or Tobacco: Smoking is not permitted on school grounds or within a 1 block radius of the school. Smoking is also not permitted on school related activities. On the first occurrence of this issue parents will be notified. Further occurrences may result in suspension.
13. Weapons: The Mediated Learning Academy enforces the policy that prohibits weapons of any kind, including replicas or imitations, or laser pointers on school premises and school related activities. THERE WILL BE ZERO TOLERANCE FOR POSSESSION OF WEAPONS.
14. Computer/Internet Use: Students are responsible for good behavior on school computers. Access is a privilege, not a right.
Expectations for Parents
1. To ensure that students are at school on time each day.
2. To encourage children to conduct themselves in an orderly manner at all times.
To respond promptly and affirmatively to any student’s misbehavior while in school or on the way to and from school.
3. To encourage personal effort, achievement and prompt completion of assignments.
4. To support the school, the principal and the entire staff in their efforts to maintain high standards of education in the school.
5. To supply written and signed explanations of absences/lateness and lack of proper dress code, including the gym strip and runners.
Expectations For Students
1. To arrive punctually, to attend regularly, and to behave appropriately.
2. To be prepared and to have the necessary books, materials and assignments.
3. To make a sincere, concentrated effort to do well in studies.
4. To be considerate of the rights of others: peers, staff, and neighbors.
5. To respect and comply with school regulations.
6. To wear correct dress code at all times i.e. school uniforms.
Student Dress Code
- School tunic or kilt
- Khaki pants
- White/Navy shirts or turtlenecks
- Navy blue dress shorts or culottes
- School sweater - choice of vest/fleece/cardigan
- Socks/leotards: navy blue
For Physical Education Classes (grades
2 to 7) and Sports Teams:
- School navy blue shorts
- School T-shirts
- Proper running shoes
Please remind students to wear their
clothing with pride! Wear clothes that are clean and in good
repair. Shirts/blouses should be tucked in. Hats are to be
removed when entering the school.
1. When in school, jackets and other non-school clothing should
be removed.
2. Students may wear minimal make-up and coloured nail polish
at school.
3. Earrings should be small (i.e. studs), that do not dangle
below the ear (and that do not pose the risk of getting snagged
on clothing or during P.E.)
All students must have the proper gym strip and runners for
every class and every event. Remember that clothing and supplies
should be labelled with you child’s name.
