About the Mediated Learning Academy
The Mediated Learning Academy is a new and innovative school for children from Kindergarten to Grade Twelve. Children learn through mediated learning experiences and “brain-based” teaching. Sponsored by the Variety Learning Centre, the Mediated Learning Academy thrives through small, focused classes. The mediational teacher helps the learner recognize the thinking processes that goes into solving a problem.
Founded in 2002, when it made its home in a pair of cast-off portable classrooms, the Mediated Learning Academy found that it was filling a need unaddressed by the public school system, and has now grown to a student population of over a hundred students drawn from all over the Lower Mainland. We now have two school buildings, both bustling with students and teachers, but retain our principles of tailored and individual teaching, with small class sizes (we try to stay smaller than 10 students in a class), and sufficient support for teachers to allow our students to learn to the very best of their abilities.
